Hiring: Watch Authenticator – Luxury & Vintage Timepieces Company: Grand Central Watch Location: New York, NY Job Posted Time: 2026-09-16 14:49:54 Employment Type: Full-time / On-site Target Skills & Keywords : Jaeger About the job Experience: •Previous experience in watch authentication, luxury watch sales, watch dealing, watch collecting, watchmaking, watch repair, auction houses, pre-owned luxury watches, or a related field is strongly preferred. •Strong familiarity with brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Omega, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Breitling, Tudor, and other luxury watch manufacturers is highly desirable. •Professional authentication experience is valuable, but we are also interested in candidates who have developed exceptional watch knowledge through years of serious study, collecting, buying and selling, or working within the watch industry. •Who We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who genuinely loves watches. •The right candidate is the person who wants to know why one Rolex reference has a different dial configuration from another, how a particular movement changed between generations, why certain engravings should look a particular way, or which components would have originally appeared on a watch from a specific period. Required Skills: •Grand Central Watch is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Watch Authenticator to join our team in New York City. •The Watch Authenticator will be responsible for carefully examining modern and vintage watches to help determine authenticity, identify inconsistencies or non-original components, verify watch details, and document findings accurately. •This position requires strong observational skills, research ability, patience, and a deep interest in watches. •Examine luxury watches to assess authenticity and identify potential counterfeit, altered, or questionable components. •Verify watches against known brand, model, reference, and production characteristics. •Identify watch brands, models, references, approximate production periods, movements, and configurations. •Inspect dials, hands, cases, casebacks, crowns, crystals, bezels, bracelets, clasps, movements, engravings, and other components for consistency and authenticity. •Recognize signs of counterfeit construction, incorrect components, refinishing, modification, or other inconsistencies. Qualifications: •Strong knowledge of luxury watches, watch brands, models, and references. •Demonstrated ability to recognize differences between authentic and counterfeit watches. •Operational familiarity with the construction and components of both mechanical and quartz watches. •In-depth knowledge of watch terminology and basic watch movement architecture. •Excellent visual attention to detail and pattern recognition. •Strong research and investigative skills. •Demonstrated capacity to identify subtle inconsistencies in typography, finishing, engravings, movements, dials, cases, bracelets, and other components. •Comfortable handling valuable and delicate watches carefully and professionally. •Demonstrated capacity to communicate findings clearly and document observations accurately. •Organized, methodical, and comfortable working through detailed examinations.
