Hiring: Technical Director Company: LUXORA THEATER Location: Austin, Texas Metropolitan Area Job Posted Time: 2026-09-16 19:26:07 Employment Type: Full-time Target Skills & Keywords : AutoCAD, Cargo, Microsoft Office About the job Experience: •5+ years of technical direction or production management in a roadhouse, performing arts center, touring, or multi-use venue, including budget and hiring responsibility; or 3+ years plus an MFA in Technical Direction or related field •Demonstrated experience advancing touring productions and corporate/private events in a rental environment Required Skills: •Serve as primary technical contact for all rental clients; advance technical riders, conduct site visits and walkthroughs, and translate client needs into house plans, crew calls, and equipment lists •Own the Main Theater’s stage systems: rigging and fly system, stage floor, power distribution, and stage machinery; maintain inspection logs and compliance documentation •Build and maintain the master technical calendar in coordination with Bookings; identify conflicts between overlapping events across the Main Theater, Production Holding Suites, Photography Studio, and Backstage Lounge •Develop and maintain venue tech packs, ground plans, sections, and line-set schedules for each space; keep them current and client-ready •Lead load-ins, changeovers, and load-outs; supervise house crew and overhire technicians on the deck •Hire, schedule, train, and supervise full-time, part-time, and overhire technical staff, including timesheet approval, performance feedback, and development •Implement and enforce the venue workplace safety program, including fall protection, rigging inspections, lift certification, and incident reporting; hold regular safety briefings •Develop and manage the technical operations budget and per-event technical cost estimates; produce accurate labor and equipment quotes for the sales/booking team Qualifications: •In-depth working knowledge of theatrical rigging (counterweight and motorized), stage automation, and overhead safety standards •Strong working knowledge of theatrical lighting, audio, and video systems and how they integrate in a roadhouse environment •Demonstrated capacity to read technical riders, stage plots, and lighting/audio plots quickly and identify gaps against house inventory •Demonstrated capacity to produce and interpret 2D/3D drawings in AutoCAD or Vectorworks •Demonstrated skills in situational leadership, recruiting, hiring, and developing crew •Demonstrated capacity to estimate labor and equipment costs and manage to a budget •Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable working directly with clients, promoters, tour managers, and vendors •Demonstrated capacity to set priorities, manage multiple overlapping events, and stay calm under pressure •Solid functional working knowledge of IATSE and AEA rules and how they affect a rental house •Solid functional working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and building systems as they affect stage operations Interested candidates, please apply directly through the job posting on company's career page or try via AI auto apply on this platform.
