Hiring: System Operator Trainer Company: NYISO Location: Rensselaer, NY Job Posted Time: 2026-09-10 15:10:58 Employment Type: Full-time Target Skills & Keywords : Microsoft Office, Microsoft PowerPoint About the job Experience: •Five years of related technical or scientific/engineering training experience. •Demonstrated ability to deliver training to a technical trade school or junior college level. •Solid functional working knowledge of the use of Energy Management or control system software. •Solid functional working knowledge of the use of a Simulator application for Training. •Documented experience conducting power system related training, power system operation or instructional design experience for technical topics desired. Required Skills: •Participate in all phases of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) in support of the various System Operator Training (SOT) training programs. •Partner cross-functionally with the training staffs of NPCC Control Areas, the New York Control Area (NYCA) and North American Transmission Owners to deliver joint and coordinated training. •Conduct Job Task Analysis in conjunction with Grid Operations to determine the need to update Control Room Operator tasks and ensure compliance with NERC Standard PER-005 requirements. •Document and maintain training records for audit and compliance purposes in accordance with NERC and NYISO requirements utilizing various compliance tools and software programs. •Participate in projects of varying scope and complexity in order to develop the training needed to ensure operators have the information and skills necessary to operate the NYCA Transmission System. •Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) along with Grid Operations for new projects utilizing the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) to validate proper project behavior and expose the operators to new functionality before going live in production. •Contribute towards the continued improvement of training programs as a member of the NYISO Curriculum Review Committee (CRC). •Serve as Subject Matter Expert for various operational and training topics in support of NYISO committees and departments. Qualifications: •Demonstrated capacity to read, analyze and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, operational criteria documents, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff and external industry partners. •Demonstrated capacity to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. •Demonstrated capacity to solve practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form. •Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications including PowerPoint, e-mail and browser programs. •NERC Reliability Certification preferred. Successful applicants will be required to earn a NERC Reliability Certification within six months of joining the NYISO. •Accredited trainer documentation and/or educational certification (AMA, Langevin, Navy Master Training Specialist or equivalent) preferred.
