Hiring: Staff Passive Safety System Design Engineer Company: Rivian Location: Palo Alto, CA Job Posted Time: 2026-09-03 10:28:30 Employment Type: Full-time Target Skills & Keywords : Systems Design, Zoom About the job Experience: •5+ years of experience with electrical systems design Required Skills: •Architect and develop new features and functions for the Passive Safety System •Drive new technologies from concept to vehicle-worthy maturity •Interface with Homologation, Functional Safety, and Compliance to understand the system requirements and distill them into technical requirements •Partner cross-functionally with HW and SW engineers to develop safety-critical system designs that meet our crash safety goals •Own and document the system architecture •Interface directly with the manufacturing team to ensure the system is manufacturable and traceable •Hands-on design and validation of prototype hardware and maturing the design by characterizing and debugging test vehicles to optimize your design •Evaluate system failure modes, create and drive integration and validation plans, and support the execution of these test plans. Qualifications: •BS + 10 years or MS + 8 years or PhD + 6 years or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or related field. •Demonstrated capacity to troubleshooting sensors, actuators, and digital signals, and perform root cause analysis •Operational familiarity with ISO 26262 or similar functional safety standards (e.g. ARP4754) •Demonstrated strong creative thinking and problem-solving toolbox •Demonstrated capacity to dive deep into electrical first principles and work in fast-paced and challenging environments. •Have a fine eye for detail, yet the ability to ‘zoom out’ and see the big picture •10 years or MS + 8 years or PhD + 6 years or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or related field.
