Hiring: Software Engineer, Data Governance Team Company: TikTok USDS Joint Venture Location: Seattle, WA Job Posted Time: 2026-09-02 17:57:37 Employment Type: Full-time Target Skills & Keywords: Data Governance, Privacy Engineering, AI Safety, Distributed Systems, Go (Golang), Java, C++, Big Data, Hive, Spark, Kafka, Flink, Kubernetes, SQL, NoSQL, Data Lineage, GDPR/CCPA, IAM, Encryption, RTBF, LLMs, Classification Models, Observability, Risk Telemetry Experience: - 2+ years of backend engineering experience in Go (Golang), Java, or C++ (Go preferred) - Experience working with high-volume data ecosystems - Prior experience in Privacy Engineering, GDPR/CCPA compliance, or Data Governance preferred - Familiarity with data cataloging or lineage tools preferred - Experience managing data deletion at scale preferred Required Skills: - Backend engineering in Go (Golang), Java, or C++ - Big data and infrastructure tools such as Hive, Spark, Kafka, Flink, or Kubernetes - Deep understanding of Database Design, SQL, and NoSQL internals, especially regarding how data is physically stored and deleted - Designing and scaling platforms that orchestrate AI safety checks - Architecting low-latency interception systems and middleware for safety guardrails - Building distributed systems for automated data lineage and right-to-be-forgotten (RTBF) workflows - Developing backend services for integrating safety models (e.g., toxicity classifiers, LLM evaluators) - Building centralized dashboards and alerting engines for real-time safety health visibility - Understanding of encryption-at-rest/in-transit and access control (IAM) frameworks Qualifications: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field - Experience with high-volume data ecosystems - Privacy domain knowledge in Privacy Engineering, GDPR/CCPA compliance, or Data Governance is a plus - Familiarity with data cataloging or lineage tools (e.g., Apache Atlas, Amundsen, or internal proprietary versions) is a plus - Security mindset with understanding of encryption and IAM frameworks - Experience managing data deletion at scale across thousands of distributed nodes is a plus Compensation: The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $129,960 - $246,240 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units.
