Hiring: Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Studies Company: Kimley-Horn Location: Greenwood Village, CO Job Posted Time: 2026-09-10 13:28:35 Employment Type: Contract / Hybrid About the job Experience: •Demonstrated experience leading studies for hybrid systems involving BESS, renewable generation, and large load integration •Strong exposure to data center, industrial load, or other high-demand load modeling and interconnection challenges •Working Knowledge And Practical Application Of IEEE 2800 •Utility-specific interconnection requirements (e.g., ERCOT, WECC, BPA) Required Skills: •Lead advanced EMT simulations in PSCAD for renewable generation, BESS, hybrid systems, and large-load interconnection projects •Direct and review dynamic (RMS) studies using PSSE or equivalent tools, including model validation, scenario development, and results interpretation •Switching transients and fault response •Load rejection and load ramp events •Interpret, apply, and advise on applicable IEEE, NERC, utility, and regional interconnection requirements •Develop and oversee high-quality technical reports, study methodologies, assumptions, conclusions, and recommendations that can stand up to utility, client, and regulatory review •Serve as a senior technical resource across multidisciplinary project teams, mentoring engineers and helping elevate the overall power systems study practice Qualifications: •10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience with a strong focus on power system studies, advanced simulations, or grid integration •Professional Engineering (P.E.) License preferred; ability to serve as a senior technical reviewer and trusted advisor to clients and project teams •Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's Degree Preferred) •Transient and dynamic system behavior •Protection coordination and system response during faults •Significant experience with interconnection, grid compliance, and utility-facing study requirements •Demonstrated capacity to lead through influence, collaborate across disciplines, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and help build scalable technical processes Compensation: •$130,000 - $200,000 / year •Eligible for Performance Based Bonus Compensation Interested candidates, please apply directly through the job posting on company's career page or try via AI auto apply on this platform.
