Hiring: Policy & Enforcement Advisor - Financial Institutions Company: Virginia State Corporation Commission Location: Richmond, VA Job Posted Time: 2026-09-16 19:59:45 Employment Type: Hybrid About the job Required Skills: •Provide guidance to the Commissioner of Financial Institutions and other senior BFI staff in the development and implementation of regulatory policies and procedures •Monitor state and federal regulatory and legislative developments to assess impact on the SCC, BFI, and financial service industries in Virginia •Conduct research on novel financial products/services and other issues that impact market conduct in Virginia •Draft legislative proposals, regulations, interpretive letters, and advisory bulletins •Participate in legislative meetings, studies, and work groups •Serve as a resource to industry groups, consumer groups, other regulatory agencies, professional associations, and BFI staff regarding Virginia statutes, regulations, and BFI guidance documents •Coordinate BFI’s Accreditation program activities with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) •Manage, in coordination with the SCC’s Office of General Counsel and BFI’s supervision teams, enforcement actions against financial institutions for violations of laws and/or regulations Qualifications: •8 or more years of professional experience in public policy research and analysis •Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, statistics, accounting, political science, public administration, law, or a related field •Graduation from an accredited law school (Juris Doctor) and admission to the Virginia state bar is a plus •Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing financial institutions, commercial law, administrative law, and applicable procedural rules and regulations •Considerable knowledge of legislative processes, policy analysis and research techniques, and the principles of data analysis •Demonstrated capacity to navigate comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related dynamics while maintaining an appropriate level of awareness and sensitivity to the political considerations of their work •Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate policy options and positions on complex issues •Demonstrated capacity to lead project teams and coordinate the work of staff •Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization, business leaders, legislators, government officials, and other stakeholders •Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to apply by October 1, 2026 Compensation: •$101,504 - $134,451 / year Interested candidates, please apply directly through the job posting on company's career page or try via AI auto apply on this platform.
