Hiring: Manufacturing Engineer, Machining (Starship) Company: SpaceX Location: Hawthorne, CA Job Posted Time: 2026-09-14 10:23:40 Target Skills & Keywords : Assembly About the job Experience: •Well versed in standard machine shop manufacturing processes and set ups •Demonstrated proficiency in CNC programming (lathes and mills) •Well versed in GD&T and inspection procedures •Highly experienced with a variety of precision conventional and advance metrology systems (photogrammetry, CMMs, 3D imaging) Required Skills: •Develop machining capability in-house for the SpaceX Starship components team and deliver high-quality precision piece parts to factory assembly areas •Analyze piece parts and assemblies for DFM to ensure that the parts are optimized for manufacturing, assembly and testing •Maintain a close feedback loop with downstream operations to ensure product success and implement rapid iterations •Review quality concerns from piece part inspection and sign off on out of tolerance conditions following a rigorous investigation into the parts use case, assembly and testing •Identify, recommend, procure, and install machine shop equipment as well as ensure all equipment is thoroughly maintained and calibrated •Lead and oversee cost optimization and cost reduction initiatives associated with fabrication and processes •Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing and fabrication methodologies and techniques •Recommend and implement improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations and equipment utilization Qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or physics •1+ years of machine shop experience •Available to work long hours and weekends as needed •Must be comfortable stooping, bending, and standing •Lift/Carry: Up to 25bs. (unassisted) 1-2 hours per day •To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. •1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. •1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
