In this hands-on role, you’ll work alongside experienced locksmiths while gaining valuable skills in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of security hardware. •You’ll assist with lock repairs and installations, master key systems, lock adjustments, and preventative maintenance across campus. Apply today and join our Facilities team! •Install, repair, and maintain mechanical security hardware, including door locks, desk and file cabinet locks, door closers, mortise locks, exit devices, and other door hardware. •Cut keys by duplication and code while assisting with key blank identification and core keying. •Change lock combinations and service small-format interchangeable cores. •Perform preventative maintenance on locking systems to ensure long-term reliability and proper function. •Assist senior locksmiths with lock installations, repairs, and master key system work across campus facilities. Qualifications: •High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. •Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. •Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assist in identifying mechanical failures and determining appropriate repair or replacement solutions. •Demonstrated capacity to maintain accurate records and track work assignments, including documenting service requests and updates through a computerized maintenance management system. •Basic knowledge of tools and a mechanical background. •Some experience with door hardware and installation is preferred but not required for this position. •Demonstrated capacity to learn and safely operate locksmith tools and equipment, including key machines, code machines, keypunches, and other specialized trade tools. •A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained. •This position will require special apprentice licenses within six months of hire and/or certification(s).
