Hiring: Industrial Mechanic (Dallas Water Utilities-Civil Service) Company: City of Dallas Location: Dallas, TX Job Posted Time: 2026-09-15 11:11:08 About the job Experience: •Four (4) years of experience performing preventative maintenance on various industrial equipment such as pumping systems or heavy plant machinery, including Traveling Water Screens, Centrifugal Blowers, Compressors, Valves, Gearboxes (Various), and/or OZONE Generator Equipment is required. •For Wastewater Plants, experience in Chemical Feed Pumps, minimum of 4” centrifugal pumps, 1750 RPM and above Gear Boxes, and experience in repair of Screen Rakes, Sluice Gates, and Screw conveyors is highly preferred. •Subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) call-out and stand-by rotation. •Subject to working in confined spaces. Required Skills: •Performs a variety of skilled difficult or complex maintenance tasks in field and ground maintenance; asphalt/paving repair and marking; climate control operation; parking meter repair, bench repair, and collection; traffic signs and marking; water system preventative maintenance and repair; and water meter testing and repair. •The Industrial Mechanic provides senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various industrial equipment, vehicles, or heavy automotive equipment. •Diagnoses, identifies, and determines equipment failures; identifies cause and ensures appropriate and professional repairs are completed by the mechanics. •Inspects and tests completed work to ensure repairs were performed according to standards; provides direction and leadership for industrial equipment serving aviation, utilities, and other departments. •Researches and orders parts needed for repairs, maintains records of purchases and installations according to established procedures, and keeps inventory of items needed for industrial equipment and vehicles. •Demonstrates proper work methods and safety procedures to other mechanics and helpers to ensure that work is performed in a proper and safe manner and to assist with complex repairs. •Inspects and executes repair, replacement, fabrication, modification, and installation of various types of plant equipment, including pumps, valves, chemical handling equipment, and all other related equipment in a timely manner to allow continuous operation of plant facilities when equipment malfunctions occur. •Performs major and minor repairs on a variety of machinery and mechanical equipment, including air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment, in compliance with operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications to ensure equipment operates properly. Qualifications: •High School diploma or GED. •Valid driver's license with good driving record. •For Distribution, Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required. •Vocational degree or certified technical training in industrial mechanics, pump systems, or a related field may substitute for up to two (2) years of required experience.
