Hiring: Founding Director of Humanities Company: Elm Community Charter School Location: Queens, NY Job Posted Time: 2026-09-13 13:52:26 Target Skills & Keywords : Project Management About the job Experience: •5 years teaching experience in elementary school, preferably experienced in literacy and elementary, middle, or high school •2 years experience developing curriculum, preferably related to interdisciplinary studies; Foundational knowledge and experience in developing interdisciplinary and inquiry-based curriculum, as well as an in-depth understanding of early childhood and elementary-level reading skills •2 years experience in instructional and operational leadership experience in K-12 schools Required Skills: •Designs and develops the Humanities and Literacy curriculum, working in partnership with instructional staff to build alignment across subjects •Designs and develops benchmark, unit, and performance assessments for literacy and humanities, aligned to Common Core Standards •Provides individual staff support (e.g. coaching, co-planning) in the implementation of curriculum •Leads professional development around literacy and humanities unit launches, data analysis, data-and driven instruction •Strategic partner in the instructional leadership team, brainstorming and planning ways to move teacher practice and student data through professional development, curricular changes, etc. •Acts as a key guide to Principal and leadership team on making responsive and timely data-driven decisions with action plans to change teaching practice •Closely monitors student achievement and growth to adjust curriculum, schedules, and teacher professional development •Coordinates necessary field studies, service learning opportunities, and community partnerships related to Humanities and Literacy courses Qualifications: •Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in elementary school, preferably experienced in literacy and elementary, middle, or high school •Minimum of 2 years experience developing curriculum, preferably related to interdisciplinary studies; Foundational knowledge and experience in developing interdisciplinary and inquiry-based curriculum, as well as an in-depth understanding of early childhood and elementary-level reading skills •Minimum of 2 years experience in instructional and operational leadership experience in K-12 schools •Master’s Degree in Education (highly preferred) •Demonstrated understanding of instructional practice, including delivery of instruction, assessment and data analysis of student performance •Demonstrated ability to provide effective professional development •Alignment to Elm’s mission, core beliefs, and educational philosophy.
