Hiring: Engineer Assistant I (Dallas Water Utilities) (Civil Service) Multiple Locations Company: City of Dallas Location: Dallas, TX Job Posted Time: 2026-09-17 08:11:08 Employment Type: Contract Target Skills & Keywords : Project Management About the job Required Skills: •Applies entry and intermediate-level engineering principles and practices in planning, designing, preparing and testing various construction, traffic, communication, and maintenance projects to develop or maintain the public infrastructure of the City of Dallas. •The Engineer Assistant applies entry and intermediate-level engineering principles and practices in planning, designing, preparing and testing various construction, traffic, and maintenance projects to develop or maintain the public infrastructure of the City of Dallas. •Provide assistance and guidance to inspectors and supervisors to facilitate their job duties. Provide construction management tools to the supervisors and inspectors to help the City manage projects more quickly and effectively. Develops project improvement techniques using feedback from supervisors. •Revises work performed by contractor, quantity verification and bid items quantity calculations of assigned City of Dallas capital projects . •Oversee all aspects of the building process, working closely with supervisors and project managers to develop plans, manage documentation, establish timetables, change orders and resolve issues during construction . Uses improved techniques for reporting requirements including, but not limited to schedules, cost, earned value, and analytics. •Participate and make recommendations to the City of Dallas construction standards and specifications 2019 Updates. Develops and Track Constructability review checklist for under design projects. •Prepares and develops customized reports for program managers/project managers . •Prepares detailed data of construction progress and inspection. Prepares various reports on daily, weekly & monthly operations and activities. Prepares various inspection reports as required. Maintains files and reports regarding inspection and plans check activities and findings. Qualifications: •Current Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued within the United States will qualify. •An individual who has passed the eight (8) hour Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) will qualify. (A copy of official exam results must accompany application.) •Some positions require a valid driver’s license and good driving record. •Some positions may be subject to field-work and inclement weather conditions.
