Hiring: Educational Specialist II - Social Studies Company: Baltimore City Public Schools Location: Baltimore, MD Job Posted Time: 2026-09-10 11:09:24 Employment Type: Full-time Target Skills & Keywords : Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, Microsoft PowerPoint About the job Required Skills: •Supports the development, coordination, and refinement of K-12 social studies curriculum and assessments aligned to the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and the MSDE Social Studies Framework. •Identifies and incorporates research-based instructional practices to strengthen social studies teaching and learning. •Designs and facilitates professional learning that promotes high-quality, inquiry-driven, and culturally responsive instruction. •Assists teachers, teacher leaders, and school teams with curriculum implementation, effective instructional practices, and classroom resources. •Uses data, student work, and educator feedback to determine needs and guide instructional support. •Participates in reviewing and selecting instructional materials and digital tools for social studies. •Supports and co-coordinates district initiatives, including Baltimore City History Day and partnerships with local cultural organizations. •Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with district offices, community partners, and cultural institutions to strengthen social studies programming. Qualifications: •Unless expressly stated otherwise with respect to the qualifications indicated in the position description, City Schools reserves the right to consider other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position. •Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institute of higher education. Master's degree preferred. •Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional licensure with a Social Studies endorsement. •At least five years of relevant full-time professional experience. •At least three years' experience teaching Social Studies. •At least three years' experience developing K-12 Social Studies curriculum, demonstrating deep content knowledge and a sustained record of successful implementation. •Comprehensive understanding of MSDE Social Studies Content Standards; the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework; and the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards. •Demonstrated capacity to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy. •Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations. •Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
