This is a hands-on leadership role, you can expect to start with a roughly equal split between writing and reviewing code and leading teams, gradually shifting toward a predominantly leadership-focused position over time. •You will work closely with the CTO, partnering on technical architecture decisions that will shape the platform for the next two years of growth, while also collaborating across product, customer success, and other functions to align engineering priorities with wider business goals. •The Company •This is a US-based edtech startup operating fully remotely, with the option to work in person in New York or Boston. The company is in an exciting phase of growth, scaling a platform with ambitions to expand further. The engineering organisation currently numbers around 20 engineers across several specialised teams. •What experience does the Director of Engineering need? •Previous experience in an engineering management role, with a track record managing multiple engineering teams •Genuine hands-on technical ability across backend systems and architecture, knowledge of modern stacks, and ideally AI experience •Experience operating within a startup or high-growth environment, comfortable setting direction and moving work forward independently •Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical thinking into business context Compensation: •Base salary of $210,000 to $240,000, plus competitive equity in a Series A company •Comprehensive health insurance, 401(k), and parental leave •Option to work remotely or use coworking spaces •Twice-yearly company retreats plus occasional travel to meet colleagues in person •So What's Next?
