Hiring: Design Geotechnical Engineer Company: Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group Location: Blacksburg, VA Job Posted Time: 2026-09-11 13:09:03 Employment Type: Internship Target Skills & Keywords : Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Project Management About the job Experience: •1 to 4 years design experience in the geotechnical, structural, transmission, or substation engineering field as a intern, junior engineer, or as part of a co-op or collaboration program •4 years design experience in the geotechnical, structural, transmission, or substation engineering field as a intern, junior engineer, or as part of a co-op or collaboration program Required Skills: •Execute assignments requiring application of standard and advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out geo-structural engineering tasks. •Perform engineering analyses for design of deep foundations (helical piers, drilled shafts, micropiles, driven piles, anchors, and others) and retaining structures. •Perform limit equilibrium and finite element stability modeling for soil and rock slopes and retaining structures. •Interface closely with project-level and senior leadership personnel within the company, including geotechnical, geological, structural, transmission line, and civil engineering, GIS, and construction management team members. •Participate in oversight and management of field subcontractor activities, such as geotechnical drilling and testing and/or forensics studies. •Develop written reports and/or provide verbal communication of information in a professional and appropriate manner under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer. •Perform occasional site visits to project sites located throughout North America. •Participation in sector focused professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events. Qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field •Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) certification with an interest in obtaining Professional Engineer licensure in one or multiple states •Excellent written and verbal communication skills. •Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams •Demonstrated capacity to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium size office setting •Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology •Operational familiarity with use and application of systems such as the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) rock quality scale, and other published geotechnical standards of practice •Operational familiarity with the use of the following computer software: LPILE, GROUP, FAD, GRLWeap, SHAFT, APILE and SLIDE, RS2, Plaxis, RISA, INVENTOR, or SPColumn •Must be able to lift 40 lbs at times. •Must be able to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces.
