Hiring: Assistant City Attorney Associate Company: City of Charlotte Location: Charlotte, NC Job Posted Time: 2026-09-16 13:20:24 Employment Type: Contract Target Skills & Keywords : Render About the job Required Skills: •Research and advise on compliance with local, state, and federal laws specific to municipal water, wastewater, and storm water operations. •Perform all tasks associated with the fulfillment of public records by Charlotte Water and Storm Water Services and through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor. •Provide legal advice and counsel through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor on matters involving customer disputes over billing, invoices, or disconnections. •Support information technology operations through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor while ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws concerning privacy and personally identifiable information. •Provide legal advice and counsel through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor on 811 claims involving Charlotte Water and Storm Water Services. •Provide legal advice and counsel through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor to support the security operations of Charlotte Water and Storm Water. •Perform all tasks through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor to ensure Charlotte Water’s and Storm Water Services’ compliance with all environmental regulations. •Provide legal advice and counsel through the direct oversight of and consultation with the One Water legal team supervisor during any administrative hearing involving Charlotte Water or Storm Water Services. Qualifications: •Knowledge of constitutional, federal, state, and local laws affecting municipal government and specifically water, wastewater, and storm water operations. •Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with others, analyze non-complex issues from a legal, policy, and practical perspective, and provide clear advice and counsel. •Possess business acumen and the ability to negotiate transactions effectively. •Demonstrated capacity to master new material quickly, manage a diverse legal portfolio, and handle a fast-paced environment. •Demonstrated capacity to think creatively to solve problems. •Demonstrated capacity to work independently and exercise sound judgment. •Knowledge of local rules, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence •Demonstrated capacity to prepare and try moderately non-complex civil cases •Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, the public, elected and appointed officials, and City staff. •Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
