Hiring: Assistant/Associate Professor of Experimental Relativistic Heavy-Ion Physics Company: Physics World Location: West Lafayette, IN Job Posted Time: 2026-09-13 14:57:46 Target Skills & Keywords : Epic Systems About the job Required Skills: •The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Purdue University invites applications for a faculty position in Experimental Relativistic Heavy-Ion Physics to begin August 2027. •The current relativistic heavy-ion efforts in the department involve physics analyses of the RHIC/STAR/sPHENIX and LHC/CMS experiments, detector design and simulation works on the ePIC experiment at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), and AI-facilitated research on the EIC under the DOE's Genesis Mission. •The successful candidate will establish a vibrant, externally funded research program, driving cutting-edge science in existing experiments while maintaining a strong leadership presence, and spearheading new hardware, software, and/or physics initiatives for EIC. •Mentor graduate students and postdocs and contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. Qualifications: •Candidates must have a PhD in Nuclear Physics or a closely related field by the start of the appointment. (Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.) •Demonstrated record of research accomplishments in nuclear physics, evidenced by publications and presentations at leading conferences. •The Department, College, and University •The College of Science, encompassing the physical, computing, and life sciences at Purdue, is home to over 350 faculty and more than 6000 students.
