Hiring: Assistant Airport Operations Duty Manager - IAD Company: Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Location: Sterling, VA Job Posted Time: 2026-09-12 14:13:07 About the job Required Skills: •Under the general direction of on-shift supervisory personnel, patrols assigned portions of the airport on foot, by vehicle, or by other approved measures to ensure compliance with the Airport Security Program, Airport Certification Manual, other Federal regulatory requirements, and airport rules and regulations. •Terminal buildings and the Air Operations Area (AOA) ramp area for any unusual events or conditions, including news media and accidents. •Lead and oversee implementation of the airport’s vehicle control program. •Monitors the Air Operations Area (AOA) and ramp area for normal operations and/or any unusual events or conditions including but not limited to safety and security incidents or accidents. •Monitors the passenger processing facilities such as the Main Terminal and Concourse areas including curbs, security checkpoints, customs facilities and various passenger transport modes to ensure normal passenger processing. Identifies and mitigates issues which could disrupt normal processes. •Monitors landside ground transportation and pedestrian areas including but not limited to roadways, parking areas, general vehicular circulation, sidewalks, and waiting areas to ensure normal operations, general cleanliness, and for any unusual events or conditions. •Documents problems, discrepancies, and non-complying conditions concerning 14 CFR Part 139, and 49 CFR Part 1540 and 1542 and tenant activities to appropriate parties and reports for follow-up actions; monitors progress of corrections; determines severity of discrepancies and priority for corrective actions. •Takes corrective action, files work orders for repairs, notifies the appropriate manager or coordinator, and files reports for airport facilities. Qualifications: •Three years of experience in airport or airline operations at a 14 CFR Part 139 certified airport, OR three years of military airfield operations experience and a bachelor’s degree in any field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. •Knowledge of and ability to apply airport safety and security regulations (e.g., 49 CFR Parts 1542, 1544, and 1546 and 14 CFR Part 139) and skill in applying them to conduct safety and security inspections and investigations, ensure airport security and safety procedures are current, and assist airlines with security requirements. •Participation in, or knowledge of, at least one of the following: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airport certification, airport or airline security program, recurring airport or airline disaster/emergency exercises, or the monitoring and coordination of airport construction and maintenance operations. •Knowledge of aircraft operations, to include navigational and unusual aircraft operating characteristics, and the ability to evaluate aircraft and air traffic and take timely and appropriate action. •Demonstrated capacity to analyze complex situations, prioritize issues, and formulate response plans. •Demonstrated capacity to make detailed analyses of data and information and make recommendations. •Demonstrated capacity to speak and write effectively, with emphasis on communicating sensitive or confidential information in an emergency. •Skill in using a computer and modern office suite software, with emphasis on security access control systems and weather monitoring systems. •A bachelor’s degree in aviation management, Airway Science, Aviation, or a related field. •Airport Certified Employee (ACE) certification in Airport Operations or Security from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).
